Floor Strengthening Project

The summer of 2013,  the first phase of the Library’s Building Project was completed.  The floors are now is good shape and ready for any remodeling and renovation that we are able to do in the future.  First they made a doorway between the two basements.  Then they poured footings for new columns and installed new beams.

 Need for Expansion & Renovation

street signWith the help of a few volunteers, the Silver Lake Library was established in a small house on the corner of Madore and Teresa in 1974.  The library soon outgrew that building and moved to the present location at the corner of Railroad and Madore.  The library has seven employees and serves more than 13,000 people a year.  The present facility no longer meets the needs of our community.

The Board of Trustees authorized the organization of a Building Committee to help determine the building design and coordinate fundraising activities.  After many meetings and much consideration, an Expansion and Renovation Project was approved by the Board of Trustees.  The Building Committee had concluded that renovation of the current building was more cost effective than construction of a new building.  Our goal is to complete the renovation within five years.  Phase One of the project was started the summer of 2013 and will be completed in September.

We are proud of the Silver Lake Library, its programs, and the support it receives from our community.  We are also excited about the planned improvements to our building and the opportunities they will provide for enhanced services to the people of Silver Lake.
